High-Volume Windows 8.1 Update (Technical White Paper)

Microsoft Information Technology (Microsoft IT) wanted to deploy the Windows 8.1 operating system as an upgrade to the Windows 8 release to manufacturing (RTM)–based computers in a rapid, phased manner. The intent of the deployment was to retain the user data and applications and execute the upgrade process with minimal user interaction on a large number of Windows 8–based computers already deployed in the environment.
